Water-To-wire

From the pipe connections to the mains connection

As a Tirolean hydropower plant specialist, we support our clients in the planning, development, repair, operation and maintenance of their plants. From the pipe connections to the mains connection – “water to wire” – everything comes from a single source. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring that all components fit and work together.

With pride in their Austrian engineering know-how and the resulting high-tech products, Geppert offers their clients a sophisticated overall concept for hydropower plants with outputs of up to 30 MW. From planning, production and installation to commissioning – Geppert designs complete turnkey solutions for emission-free energy generation. High quality in development and production is ensured by first-class materials, quality assurance to the highest standard and leading engineering knowledge from the land of hydropower: Austria.

EPC Contracting

A Complete Solution for Hydropower Plants

As a general contractor for your turnkey hydropower plant, the fourth generation of the Geppert family is continuing the company’s tradition of supplying and installing various types of turbines and customized complete solutions. Our expertise lies in the production of hydropower plants for generating clean electricity for a client’s own needs or to be fed into a grid.

As hydropower turbine specialists , we also keep our finger on the pulse when it comes to project management. Within the framework of EPC contracting, you can leave the overall planning of your renewable energy project to us. Together, we can build green power plants that deliver cost-effective and emission-free electricity.

Assembled with skill – at the factory and on site

All hydropower plant components are assembled at our production site in Hall, a town in the Tirol region of Austria. Before delivery, the entire scope of supply is subjected to acceptance testing by our own quality inspectors according to the strictest criteria. On request, our clients are invited to the factory acceptance test and can witness for themselves at this early stage the professionalism of Geppert’s engineers.

With enthusiasm and technical know-how, our highly qualified and experienced employees ensure a smooth erection process on site. These experts, in coordination with the other specialists at the construction site, deliver hydropower projects worldwide that meet our clients’ ultra-high standards.

Green electricity for maximum performance

Commissioning small and large hydropower plants is preceded by precise planning. After carrying out multiple “dry runs”, highly qualified control engineers set key parameters before the actual commissioning. Water is then admitted to the system, and after numerous wet tests the plant is synchronized. After recording the results of various acceptance tests and providing comprehensive on-site training for the power plant operators, the plant is handed over to the client ready for operation.

Design

Comprehensive project planning forms the basis for success. True to this principle, highly qualified staff plan, comprehensively test and professionally design every renewable energy project right down to the smallest detail. In extensive discussions with clients, ideas and facts are collected, needs are clarified and plans for implementation are drawn up.

Two and three-dimensional designs ensure the optimization of the equipment in the planning phase. Any two-dimensional sectional planes desired can be created from components represented spatially. This forms the basis for a correct installation plan, whose data, in turn, are the foundation for detailed planning of the power house.

Design
Simulation

Simulation

Prior to the start of the overall design, the simulation department carries out transient flow analysis to ensure ideal component design. As an integral part of the design process, FEM analysis, fatigue strength analysis and vibration analysis are also carried out.

CFD analysis is performed in order to maximize efficiency. This ensures that penstocks and elements of importance for fluid dynamics are perfectly dimensioned.

CNC / Manufacturing

The use of CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) machine tools has created the prerequisite for the accurate, precise production of runners.

Design data for highly stressed hydraulic surfaces are transferred to the CNC processing machines via CAM programs. All our hydraulic components are optimized for maximum efficiency by means of numerical flow analysis, and this efficiency has been confirmed in model tests and via thermodynamic efficiency measurements in the plant itself. We check both existing plants and the finished product with impeller diameters of up to 3 m for their dimensional accuracy down to a hundredth of a millimetre using state-of-the-art measuring technology.
